After the mutiny of 1857 the British parliament passed an act that ended to the rule of the East India company in India. It means the control of Indian rule was transferred to the British Crown. In this development Lord Canning was made the first Viceroy of India.<\/div>\n

He was known as the Savior of Punjab.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

It was also laid down that the candidates had to appear and pass the civil services examination which began to be held in England. The maximum age for these candidates were reduced from 21 to 19 years.<\/p>\n

As per the Act India became independent on August 15, 1947.<\/p>\n

He was succeeded by C. Rajagopalachari, who was the last Governor General of free India.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n
