The Kerala Public Service Commission<\/a> conducts the exam for selections into posts of lower division clerks to various Kerala Government offices, with qualified candidates being appointed to government offices across the 14 districts of the state.<\/p>\n

The exam which has a high level of competition, devotes a major chunk of its questions to General knowledge(50%), with the rest of the sections comprising of General English(20%), Mental Ability and simple arithmetic(20%) and General Knowledge in Regional Language(10%). The coaching which she went for was beneficial, she says, but that would amount to only 20% of the work, the rest lies on the hard work that is put in. Working out previous year\u2019s question papers does a lot of good and also, attending questions that one is only remotely sure of is a poor strategy as this only fetches you negative marks, she advises.<\/p>\n

Tip 1:<\/b> \u201c Time management is a very important factor. Only for someone who has practiced with previous year question papers in a fixed time limit, will this come naturally.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Paraphernalia for success<\/b><\/p>\n

Mrs. Dhanya, 34, who currently works at the Finance department took the exam in 2013. Attending coaching classes was, to her, only for reference, she says, the major chunk of the work was done by her back home. Covering whatever was mentioned in the syllabus was one strategy she followed, enabling her to answer a majority of the questions for the exam.<\/p>\n

Tip 2: \u200b<\/i><\/b>\u201c Referring to Thozhilvartha will do a lot of good, since they put up mock tests which is as close as it gets to the real one. Also, a good source of knowledge are the Yearbooks.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Mrs.Megha Arun, 30, wrote her exam in 2012 after having lost all hope of getting through with the NET exam. But this setback had helped to strategize the study plan, she says. Six months worth of newspaper and a systematic learning of the typical history and geography helped her get through nicely with the GK section, she retorts.<\/p>\n

Tip 3:<\/b> <\/b>\u201c Checking the exam syllabus and pattern and finding the areas that one is very confident in is important. Because, keeping one\u2019s knowledge of these parts intact will help in scoring maximum marks from them.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Combined efforts to land PSC<\/b><\/p>\n

Arun Raj, 25, who works at the Secretariat took the exam in 2015. His way of preparation held a high position for the coaching that he attended to crack the exam. This enabled him to connect with like-minded people with whom combined study was a fruitful task, he says. Learning it with a group of people makes the task at hand seem like a manageable one, he believes.<\/p>\n

Tip 4:<\/b> \u201c Taking the skills in one\u2019s regional language for granted might be a risky move. Hone and polish those skills to the maximum. One other important factor is believing in oneself. It creates a positive stress-free environment.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Old is Gold<\/b><\/p>\n

Mrs. Santha Kumari, 74, took her PSC exam way back in 1962. After getting selected in the first try and also the first chance, she joined the Revenue Dept. Her strong knowledge of the current affairs, she says, comes from the numerous hours she had spent pouring over the newspapers and books and especially from listening to the radio which helped her a lot for the exam.
