In 1989, the General Assembly has proclaimed the year 1994 as the International Year of Family. Followed by the resolution passed in 1993, the General Assembly has decided to observe 15th May of every year as the International Day of Families. Accordingly, in 2012, the General Assembly has decided to annually observe June 1st as the Global Day of Parents as a token of love and respect towards the known and unknown sacrifices they have made.<\/p>\n<p>The traces of the celebration of parent&#8217;s day back in Korea. Korean Christian Communities started celebrating Mother&#8217;s Day annually from the 1930s onwards. The State Council of South Korea has officially declared May 8th as Mother&#8217;s Day. Korean people began to celebrate Mother&#8217;s Day from 1956 onwards. However, it seemed to be a lack of loyalty not to observe a day for fathers. As per the decision, on 30th March 1973, the Korean Government has decided to pay tribute to both father and mother by observing May 8 as the Parents Day in Korea.
