He was born in the Bhadrapada month, the month spanning between August and September. It was on the eighth ( Ashtami) day of the pitch-dark night. The birth happened at midnight in Mathura. Lord Krishna was born to the virtuous Devaki and Vasudeva. They are the biological parents of Lord Krishna. Among the 10th Avatars of Mahavishnu, Lord Krishna is the highly popular one. At the time of the birth of Krishna, Mathura was born by his uncle Kamsa. The prophecy claimed that the demon king would be killed by the eight sons of Vasudev- Devaki couple.

The downfall of King Kamsa would have happened at the hands of Devaki’s eighth son. This prophecy had a huge impact on the lives of the couple. They were jailed and tortured fearing the prophecy. The king wanted to kill the children of the couple. Every time, when a child was born, the child was immediately killed by Kamsa. It was the eighth son according to the prophecy, but Kamsa didn’t spare any of the kids of Devaki and Vasudev.

The couple was imprisoned and tortured by Kamsa who was afraid of his death and downfall. King Kansa killed the first six children. Their seventh child as a foetus was transferred mystically from the womb of Devaki to the womb of princess Rohini. This foetus is Balram, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. At the time of the birth of Krishna, the eighth child of Devaki and Vasudev, nature itself was turbulent. Nature was preparing itself for the rescue of the savior. The entire palace was left in deep slumber.

The little Krishna was saved and carried to Vrindavan under the safe custody of Nanda Gopar and Yashoda’s house. The children were exchanged. Vasudeva brought back a baby girl to the palace and the girl was taken away by Kamsa. Even though it’s a girl, Kamsa tried to kill her. The girl suddenly transformed herself into Goddess Durga, ferociously warning the king about the impending death and doom. Krishna was taken care of by his foster parents. Krishna grew up as a cowboy at Vrindavan. When he became an adult, he killed his uncle and saved the kingdom from the demon king.

Attempt a General Knowledge Quiz here!

Janmashtami Celebration 2021

It is a Hindu festival where the devotees celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna.
