This day raises awareness about the urgent need to eliminate a practice that violates the fundamental rights, dignity, and health of millions of girls and women worldwide.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1kqzukk\" data-start=\"710\" data-end=\"749\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_Female_Genital_Mutilation\"><\/span><strong>What is Female Genital Mutilation?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"90\" data-end=\"555\">Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) refers to all procedures that intentionally alter, remove, or injure the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. According to the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">World Health Organization<\/span><\/span>, FGM is internationally recognized as a violation of human rights and a serious threat to the health, dignity, and physical integrity of girls and women.
