Britain finally took control of India. In the early 1900s, India started to fight for independence from Britain. Led by Mohandas Gandhi, non-violent protests were driven against the British. Later East Pakistan is becoming a third country, Bangladesh. India and Pakistan have had strained connections over the years including both countries testing nuclear weapons. He executes many reforms in the government.<\/p>\n<p>230 &#8211; The Satavahana Empire is founded.<\/p>\n<p>CE 60 &#8211; The Kushan Empire acquires control of Northern India. Southern India is governed by the Satavahana Empire.<\/p>\n<p>319 &#8211; The Gupta Empire takes possession of much of India. The rule of the Gupta Empire is a time of peace and wealth. Babur<\/p>\n<p>1498 &#8211; Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama comes in India. He is the first European to come to India by the ocean. He guides trade between Europe and India.<\/p>\n<p>1527 &#8211; The Mughal Empire is founded by Babur.<\/p>\n<p>1556 &#8211; Akbar the Great becomes came to be the Mughal Emperor. He will develop the empire to include much of the Indian Subcontinent. The arts and literature blossomed during his reign.<\/p>\n<p>1600- The British East India Company has endowed with a charter by Queen Elizabeth I to have sole rights to trade with India.<\/p>\n<p>1653 &#8211; The Taj Majal is constructed in Agra. It is constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.<\/p>\n<p>1757 &#8211; The East India Company conquers Bengal at the Battle of Plassey.<\/p>\n<p>1772 &#8211; Warren Hastings has established the first Governor-General of Bengal.<\/p>\n<p>1857 &#8211; The Indians were revolutionary against the rule of the British East India Company.<\/p>\n<p>1858 &#8211; The British Empire carries over the East India Company. The British Indian Empire is founded the Taj Majal<\/p>\n<p>1877 &#8211; Queen Victoria declares the title the Empress of India. 1885 &#8211; The Indian National Congress is assembled to gain independence for India.<\/p>\n<p>1911 &#8211; The capital city is transferred from Calcutta to Delhi by the British government.<\/p>\n<p>1920 &#8211; Mahatma Gandhi starts his campaign of non-violence against the British government.<\/p>\n<p>1930 &#8211; Gandhi directs the Salt March against the British salt monopoly.<\/p>\n<p>1942 &#8211; The Quit India Movement is established by the Indian National Congress.<\/p>\n<p>1947 &#8211; India evolves into an independent nation. The Muslim state of Pakistan is founded in the north. Jawaharlal Nehru evolves the first Prime Minister of India.<\/p>\n<p>1948 &#8211; War crashes out between India and Pakistan over the borderland of Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p>1948 &#8211; Mahatma Gandhi is assassinated by an Indian.<\/p>\n<p>1950 &#8211; India evolves into a republic.<\/p>\n<p>1966 &#8211; Indira Gandhi, the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, is selected as prime minister.<\/p>\n<p>1971 &#8211; India goes to war with Pakistan over the invention of the country of Bangladesh from East Pakistan.
