In life and in business there are many unforeseen obstacles. Some of these obstacles can trip us up and cause us to fall flat on our faces. How do you get back up? How do you make the pain of falling on your face go away? How do you keep going?<\/p>\n

Challenge yourself.<\/strong>\u00a0Many professionals hold themselves back and don\u2019t move on to the next stage of their career or take their business to the next level because they don\u2019t actually believe in themselves. If we are not challenged, we don\u2019t grow and can become complacent in what we are doing.<\/p>\n

Learn from setbacks.<\/strong>\u00a0Seeing setbacks as an opportunity to learn and grow is an essential part of a winning mindset.<\/p>\n

Dwelling on past disappointments stops you from moving on. \u201cThere are always things that go wrong, but what I\u2019ve learnt from my running is that\u2019s all part and parcel of what helps you get there in the end\u2014it makes you love what you do and get a better understanding of what you do.\u201d When you have disappointments or setbacks, try to find a positive out of every situation.<\/p>\n

Wellbeing and performance.<\/strong>\u00a0Just as nutrition and hydration are essential to an athlete\u2019s achievements, wellbeing is key to performance and success in placements. Eating the right foods at the right time of day provides a steady supply of energy for concentration and focus, can prevent an afternoon dip, or help you get over jetlag. Hydration is another critical factor in our ability to concentrate. Recognising sources and levels of stress and thinking about the way you relax also has an effect on performance.<\/p>\n

Define your WHY<\/strong>. List three top reasons that you want to succeed. The first reason should be personal and for yourself, the second reason can be based on loved ones and the third reason could be for anything important to you.<\/p>\n

Make a plan<\/strong>. The plan should include short, medium and long term goals. Then include the how, when, where, who and what.<\/p>\n

Accountability<\/strong>. Share your plan with a friend or family member that is willing to cheer you on and be honest with you. Even better, get a small group of supportive, positive people who will hold you responsible and keep you on your plan.<\/p>\n

Make a daily routine and schedule<\/strong>. A winning mindset is built on momentum. Checking off each thing on your to-do list daily will help you see progress and give you motivation to continue.<\/p>\n

Use visualizations<\/strong>. See yourself and your goals as a campfire. Like a fire you need to keep adjusting it, adding wood to keep the fire going and make it big. Every step makes the fire bigger and sometimes a misstep or problem may diminish your flames. That means you need to adjust quickly and keep the fire going.<\/p>\n

Make a plan for when you fall.<\/strong>\u00a0Like with any injury you will need time to heal, to evaluate what happened and maybe some physical therapy to get back to full strength. Have a system in place that you\u2019re comfortable with to help you evaluate and learn from your mistakes. You could keep a journal, take a walk or draw a map. See mistakes as detours that help get you where you want to go more quickly.<\/p>\n

Perspective<\/strong>. Goals are destinations and mistakes\/missteps are detours. You will get lost from time to time and sometimes you\u2019ll speed ahead. That\u2019s the nature of a journey. It doesn\u2019t matter how you get there, as long as you get there. Having patience will give you the long-burning fuel you need to reach your destination.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t rely on your talent. <\/strong>Steve Canal, marketing guru and author of\u00a0The Mind of a Winner,\u00a0says, \u201cWe all are good at something, but a winning mindset understands that the difference between making it a hobby or a business is the discipline and work you put behind it. Never just rely on your gift or talent.”<\/p>\n

We all have some kind of talent, something that sets us apart from our peers. This can also be a potential trap. Consistent top performers don\u2019t rely on their talent alone. They work on their craft. They investigate their weaknesses and target them like a heat-seeking missile.<\/p>\n

They have discovered the source of momentum and, with it, the beginnings of a smarter way to exceptional growth. They live by this motto: First build your wave, then ride it.\u201d You reach big goals with consistent baby steps, not intermittent fusillades. It\u2019s not always exciting. \u00a0Trust your vision. <\/strong>As an person, you have a vision. To succeed, you have to stay true to that vision. That doesn\u2019t mean you shouldn’t be adaptable\u00a0or make changes within your business. It means that you have to possess unshakeable trust that your ideas will work.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Take action. <\/strong>Ultimately, you can’t think your way to a goal. You have to take action. Many business leaders spend so much time analyzing their next move that they become stagnant and risk-adverse. As a result, they miss out on opportunities to fail and learn from their mistakes.<\/p>\n

You might not be 100% certain about a particular decision. The consequences for the wrong choice could be catastrophic. It doesn\u2019t matter. You can’t sit in complacent inaction and still succeed. At some point, you have to make a move. Be willing to take action, even potentially incorrect action, and make it a habit.<\/p>\n

Winning mindsets aren\u2019t innate. They\u2019re developed. Creating a winning mindset is like being a great baker: it\u2019s part science, part self-confidence and part ingenuity.
