Learning English can be demanding, and it can be even more challenging if you don’t go about it in the right way. Little details can make a big distinction in how effectively you speak. Here are we mentioned some mistakes you may not realize you are driving, and how to correct them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Articles<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Indefinite and definite articles, \u201cor\u201d \u201ca,\u201d \u201can\u201d and \u201cthe\u201d as they are more generally known, are hard for even native English learners to keep straight. \u201cThe\u201d is only used when you\u2019re talking about something that is known to both the writer and the reader, while \u201ca\u201d or \u201can\u201d can be directed to anything. Confusing absolutely. Again, \u201can\u201d is only used before a vowel. Yet, why do we say an hour but a horse?<\/span><\/p>\n

Mass nouns<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

These are nouns that act \u201csingular\u201d but guide to more than one thing. A family or group is made up of more than one person but works as a single unit in sentences. Other often confusing mass nouns are advice, news, garbage, and water.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adverbs vs. Adjectives<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Confounded by many native English speakers as well, English learners often mix up adverbs and adjectives. Well is an adverb, good is an adjective. So technically you ran well but your run was right and the test was good but ran well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prepositions<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

These are hard in every language because every language employs them a bit differently. In English, \u201cIN\u201d is used both for closed areas and periods, \u201cAT\u201d is used for a specific time or place and \u201cON\u201d is used to represent the surface something is on or a day.<\/span><\/p>\n

SVO Word Order<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

That is Subject-Verb-Object word order. In English, unlike many different languages, the subject is ALWAYS necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pronouns<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Combining \u201che\u201d and \u201cshe\u201d is another typical mistake made by English learners. Some languages, like Japanese, don\u2019t determine every event of these articles.<\/span><\/p>\n

3rd Person \u201cS\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

When employing 3rd person singular (he, she, it), always add an \u2013s to the end of the verb. The \u201cs\u201d is often missed by English learners!<\/span><\/p>\n
