It is a verb that adds context and functionality to clauses and sentences. These verbs can also function as action verbs. Most commonly used primary auxiliary verbs in a sentence are be, have, do.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Functions_Of_Primary_Auxiliary_Verbs\"><\/span><strong>Functions Of Primary Auxiliary Verbs<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The primary auxiliary verb has no meaning of its own. Unlike most verbs, there is only one form of these verbs. Typically, verb forms change to indicate whether the sentence&#8217;s structure is singular or plural.<\/p>\n<p>Modal auxiliary verbs include \u201ccan,\u201d \u201ccould,\u201d \u201cwould,\u201d \u201cshould,\u201d \u201cshall,\u201d \u201cmight,\u201d \u201cmay,\u201d \u201cmust,\u201d \u201cwill,\u201d \u201cneed,\u201d \u201cdare,\u201d and the phrases \u201cought to\u201d and \u201cused to.\u201d we cannot conjugate these kind of verbs. Since modal auxiliary verbs do not have a past tense form, we can use the modal auxiliary along with the word &#8216;have&#8217; and a\u00a0<b>past participle<\/b>. past participles typically end in -d, -ed, -n, or -en, creating the past tense &#8216;wished, looked, taken,&#8217; and so on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We <strong>must<\/strong> fight to preserve what remains. ( <strong>must<\/strong> expresses the necessity)<\/li>\n<li>You could drive all night and be there by morning (<strong>could<\/strong> expresses ability)<\/li>\n<li>She <strong>will<\/strong> sing loud for the audience.(<strong>will<\/strong> expresses willingness)<\/li>\n<li>I<strong> could<\/strong> watch the whole series during free time.(<strong>could<\/strong> expresses possibility)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Different_Types_Of_Modal_Auxiliary_Verbs_With_Examples\"><\/span><strong>Different Types Of Modal Auxiliary Verbs With Examples:<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are five main types of modal verbs depending upon the meaning they express<\/p>\n<p>1. Modals denoting ability: can and could.<\/p>\n<p>eg:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You <strong>could<\/strong> drive all night and be there by morning<\/li>\n<li>You <b>can <\/b>use all my stuff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. Modals expressing permission: can and may.<\/p>\n<p>eg:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>May<\/strong> I open the door?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Can <\/strong>I use your pen?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. Modals expressing likelihood: will, might, may, can, and could.<\/p>\n<p>eg:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It <strong>may <\/strong>rain today.<\/li>\n<li>She <strong>might<\/strong> have gone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4.
