Empowerment, also addressed \u201cUnder the SMILE-75 initiative, 75 municipal corporations in collaboration with NGOs and other stakeholders will cover several comprehensive welfare measures for persons who are engaged in the act of begging with focus extensively on rehabilitation, provision of medical facilities, counselling, awareness, education, skill development, economic linkages and convergence with other government welfare programmes etc&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>During the launching ceremony the Minister also added that the one of the main aim of the initiative was to make the 75 municipalities<strong> \u201cbegging-free\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/entri.sng.link\/Bcofz\/yv45\/8wer\"><strong>Grab The Latest GK Study Materials &#8211; Download Entri App!!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To implement this <strong>SMILE-75 Initiative <\/strong>scheme till year 2025-26, Ministry of Social Justice &amp; Empowerment has granted of Rs.100 crores. Local Urban Bodies, Civil Society Organizations or Non-Government Organizations plays an important role in addressing the act of begging with concerted efforts. In India, Begging is a criminal act in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, in accordance with Bombay Prevention of Begging Act, BPBA (1959). Under the act, officials from Social Welfare Department conduct raids, in association with Police and pick up beggars. Later, they are tries in special courts called \u2018beggar courts\u2019.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SMILE_Scheme\"><\/span><strong>SMILE Scheme<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The scheme will be implemented with the support of State\/UT Governments\/Local Urban Bodies, Voluntary Organizations, Community Based Organizations (CBOs) , institutions and others.<\/li>\n<li>It will be a\u00a0comprehensive scheme for persons engaged in the act of begging.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme has been implemented in the selected cities on pilot basis having large concentrations of the Beggar community.<\/li>\n<li>During the year 2019-20, this Ministry had released an amount of Rs. 1 Crore to\u00a0National Institute of Social Defence (NISD)\u00a0and Rs. 70 Lakh to\u00a0National Backward Classes Finance &amp; Development Corporation (NBCFDC)\u00a0for skill development programmes for beggars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SMILE_75_Initiative_%E2%80%93_Objective\"><\/span><strong>SMILE 75 Initiative &#8211; Objective<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The main objective is the scheme is to address the persisting problem of destitution and beggary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Making our\u00a0cities\/town and municipal areas begging-free.<\/li>\n<li>Making a strategyfor comprehensive rehabilitation of the persons engaged in the act of begging through the\u00a0coordinated action\u00a0of various stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li>The Ministry of Social Justice &amp; Empowerment understands the important role of Local Urban Bodies, Civil Society Organisations\/Non-Government Organisations to address this persisting social issue with concerted efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SMILE_75_Initiative_%E2%80%93_Aim\"><\/span><strong>SMILE 75 Initiative &#8211; Aim<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Municipal Corporations will provide a range of comprehensive welfare measures for people who are involved in begging in collaboration with NGOs and other stakeholders, with a strong emphasis on rehabilitation, medical facility, provision-counselling, awareness, education, skill\u00a0development, economic ties, and convergence with other Government welfare programs, among other things.<\/li>\n<li>The SMILE project would have a\u00a0total budget of Rs. 100 crore from now till 2025\u20132026from the\u00a0Ministry of Social Justice &amp; Empowerment.<\/li>\n<li>It aims to create a system of support for the extensive rehabilitation of beggars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/entri.sng.link\/Bcofz\/yv45\/8wer\"><strong>Practice Free GK Mock Test &#8211; Download Entri App!!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SMILE_75_Initiative_%E2%80%93_Full_Form\"><\/span><strong>SMILE 75 Initiative &#8211; Full Form<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To address the\u00a0enduring issue of destitution and beggary, the Government of India has initiated the comprehensive\u00a0<strong>SMILE <\/strong>scheme.
