The Ramsar Convention, which was signed on February 2 in the Iranian city of Ramsar, came into effect in 1971 as part of the International Treaty for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Wetlands. The adoption of the convention is commemorated this year on World Wetlands Day, which is marked on February 2. Approximately 175 parties to the convention are present at this time.
