To change the positive degree into comparative, the adjective is adjoined with \u2018er\u2019 or \u2018more\u2019. (wall colour is compared with the wall)<\/p>\n<p>Correct\u00a0 \u2013 This wall colour is more beautiful than that of the old one. (compare wall colour with wall colour)<\/p>\n<p><b>Rule 7.\u00a0<\/b>When the comparative degree is used in the superlative degree sense<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use \u2018any other\u2019 when thing\/person of the same group is compared.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Degree of comparison example:<\/p>\n<p>Incorrect: Reena is smarter than any student of her class.<\/p>\n<p>Correct: Reena is smarter than\u00a0any other\u00a0student of her class.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use \u2018any\u2019 if comparison of things\/person is outside the group.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Incorrect: Delhi is cleaner than any other city in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<p>Correct: Delhi is cleaner than\u00a0any\u00a0city in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<p><b>Rule 8.\u00a0<\/b>When in the same sentence two adjectives in different degrees of comparison are used, both should be complete in themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Incorrect- She is as good if not worse than her sister.<\/p>\n<p>Correct \u2013 She is as good as if not worse than her sister.<\/p>\n<p><b>Rule 9.\u00a0<\/b>To show whether the difference between the compared thing\/person is small or big, we use quantifiers for the comparative degree of an adjective such as (A bit, a little, a lot, far, much, a great deal, significantly, etc).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My hostel is only\u00a0marginally\u00a0bigger than yours.<\/li>\n<li>She is\u00a0a little\u00a0more popular than her sister in their school.<\/li>\n<li>Australia is\u00a0slightly\u00a0smaller than Africa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We don\u2019t use quantifiers with superlative degrees of adjectives but there are certain phrases commonly used with the superlative degrees of comparison.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Degree of Comparison Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In metropolitan cities, metros are\u00a0by far the\u00a0cheapest mode of transportation.<\/li>\n<li>Sanskrit is\u00a0one of the\u00a0oldest languages in the world.<\/li>\n<li>Siddhivinayak is\u00a0the second\u00a0richest temple in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rule. 10.\u00a0<\/b>While changing the degree of comparison for the irregular adjectives, the word completely changes instead of adding \u2018er\u2019 or
