In this article we will discuss UPSC Mains Syllabus 2023 for IAS Exam. The 8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 9<sup>th<\/sup> \u00a0papers\u00a0which are\u00a0English and Indian Language, are qualifying in nature (aspirants\u00a0have to score 25% or above to be eligible for selection). Both the papers follow same pattern as given below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One essay question for 100 marks \u2013 aspirants need to select one out of a few given topics<\/li>\n<li>Reading comprehension and related 5 to 6 questions for a total of 60 marks<\/li>\n<li>Precis writing for 60 marks \u2013 the answer sheet will consist of a separate grid structure where this has to be written.<\/li>\n<li>Translation from English to chosen language for and vice-versa each for 20 marks.<\/li>\n<li>Grammar and basic language usage like antonyms,synonyms, sentence correction etc. for a total of 40 marks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong><b>Essay<\/b><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The IAS\u00a0mains syllabus does not have any prescribed syllabus for the essay paper as such. As per the UPSC\u00a0(Union Public Service Commission)\u00a0, \u201cAspirants\u00a0are expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in an orderly manner, and to write concisely. There will be 2\u00a0papers for a combined total of 500 marks.
