Both dams and reservoirs have different meaning. Dams and reservoirs are created to control the flow of water in a river and to store the water for several purposes. Dam is a concrete structure designed and built across a river to control and restrict the flow of water. It is used to generate electricity and build a reservoir, whereas reservoir is an open storage area which looks like an artificial lake, where water is collected and stored to be drawn off as when needed.
