Discussing a few of them who gave major contributions to uplift our society:<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805\u20131871) &#8211;\u00a0 Found CMI (India&#8217;s first Christian priest committee)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born in Kainakari, Alappuzha<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0He is known as the Father of Literacy in Kerala. Introduced the system which announced that a\u00a0 School must be built along with every Church. Also, the Pidiyari system( a handful of rice) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">encouraging people to make daily small donations to help the needy <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was introduced by him.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Established the first printing press in 1846 without foreign support in Kerala at mannanam. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Named st.joseph&#8217;s press, It was the 3rd one in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Kuriakose Elias Chavara <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> declared beatified in 1986 and canonized on 23 November 2014.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>Vaikunda swamikal \/ Ayya vaikundar (1809\u20131851) &#8211;\u00a0 Founded Samatva Samajam.<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born in <\/span><b>1809<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Place: Swamithoppu, Tamil Nadu<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First name: Mudi Choodum Perumal ( due to heavy protest from upper-class name changed to Muthukutty because at that time only upper castes were allowed to use the names of gods as their names)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>&#8216;Samatva Samajam<\/strong>&#8216; probably the first social organization of Kerala\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was imprisoned in 1838 at Singara thoppu Jail by Swathi Thirunnal for calling him &#8220;Ananthapuri devil&#8221; saying Travancore as &#8220;rule of Black devils&#8221; and British as &#8220;rule of White devils.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is the first to install a mirror for worshipping in South India<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Constructed public well for people. <\/span><b>Muthira Kinar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is situated at Swamithoppu. The people of various castes took their holy bath in the well and bath was called Muttiripatham.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Famous quote- &#8216;One caste, One religion, One clan, One world, One God&#8217;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">( &#8221; jathi onn, matham onn, kulam onn, daivam onn, lokam on &#8220;)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Famous slogan &#8211; \u2018If we work, we should be got paid\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Died on <\/span><b>1851<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>\u00a0Thycaud Ayya \/ Subharayan (1814\u20131909) <i>&#8211; <\/i>founded the famous \u201cSaiva Prakasha Sabha<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The original name of Thycaud Ayya was <\/span><b>Subbarayan<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Known as <b><i>Guru of great Gurus&#8217;<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was born in <\/span><b>1814<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>Nagalapuram<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He was the guru of Chattampi Swamikal, Sri\u00a0 Narayana Guru and Ayyankali.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a Yogi cum Family man. Ayya Swamikal started inter-dining\u00a0 (<\/span><b>Panthbhojanam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) in Kerala during the 19th century even before Mahatma Gandhi thought of it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He argued that any Yogi could install idols in temples, that inspired Sree Narayana Guru to install idols of Siva.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>Oru jathi, oru matham, oru Daivam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (\u201cIntha ulagathile orae oru jathi than, Orae oru matham than, orae oru kadavul than\u201d ) is the Malayalam translation of Ayyaswamy\u2019s teaching . Sri Narayan Guru popularized the slogan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1984 Thycaud Ayya Mission was formed at Trivandrum.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0Swamikal with the help of Manonmaneeyam Sundaram Pillai, the first MA holder of Travancore,\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 founded the famous \u201c<\/span><b>Saiva Prakasha Sabha<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d at Chalai, Thiruvananthapuram.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thycaud Ayya passed away in <\/span><b>1909.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Chattampi Swamikal (1853-1924)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Sree Vidyadhiraja Parama Bhattaraka Chattampi Swamikal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a Hindu sage and social reformer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chattampi Swamikal was born on <\/span><b>25 August 1853 at Kollur<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a suburban village of Thiruvananthapuram in Southern Travancore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His childhood name was <\/span><b>Ayyappan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But he was called by his pet name <\/span><b>Kunjan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by all and so was later known as Kunjan Pillai.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While learning at the \u2018Patasala\u2019 of Pettayil Raman Pillai Asan, he was deputed as the <\/span><b>\u2018Chattampi\u2019 (monitor)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the class. So later he came to be known as \u2018Chattambi Swamikal\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Aniyoor Temple near Vamanapuram Chattampi Swami met another young man Nanu Asan who was in search of spiritual guidance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He attained Mahasamadhi on 5th August 1924 at Panmana in Kollam district.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mortal remains of Chattampi Swamikal were enshrined at his Samadhistanam at Panmana. This site is today called Panmana Ashramam (Kollam district).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vedadhikara Niroopanam, Prachina Malayalam, Adwaitha Chintha Paddhathi, Moksha Pradeepa Khandanam, etc. are famous works of Chattambi Swamikal.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Sree Narayana Guru (1856\u20131928) &#8211; Founder of SNDP<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sree Narayana Guru was born at <\/span><b>Chempazhanthy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Thiruvananthapuram district on <\/span><b>20th August 1856<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Chathayam in the month of Chingam).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His father was <\/span><b>Madan Asan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and his mother was <\/span><b>Kutty Amma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He was named <\/span><b>Narayanan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and was dotingly called<\/span><b> Nanu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After his studies, he also began teaching in a nearby school. From that time the people respectfully called him \u201c<\/span><b>Nanu Asan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His friendship with Chattambi Swamikal started in 1884. Chattambi Swamikal introduced him to <\/span><b>Thycaud Ayyaswami<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a distinguished yoga guru of Trivandrum.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later he went to <\/span><b>Maruthwamala<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in search of ultimate truth and spent 8 years of solitary life. Here, Narayana guru is believed to have attained a state of Enlightenment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1888, he installed an idol of Shiva at <\/span><b>Aruvippuram<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the banks of the <\/span><b>Neyyar river<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sree Narayana Guru was appointed as the first president of <\/span><b>SNDP Yogam founded in 1903<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the initiative of Dr.Palpu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is regarded as the <\/span><b>father of the renaissance of Kerala<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He belonged to the Ezhava<\/span><b> community<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and it was an era in which Ezhavas were facing many social injustices in the caste-ridden society of Kerala.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was the first Keralite to be appeared on an <\/span><b>Indian stamp<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and also the first Keralite to be inscribed on a <\/span><b>coin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of RBI.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is the only Keralite whose <\/span><b>birthday and death anniversary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are declared a holiday by the Government of Kerala.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The slogan popularized by Sree Narayana Guru-\u201c<\/span><b>One caste, one religion and one God for mankind<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also exhorted \u201c<\/span><b>Liquor is poison, make it not, sell it not, drink it not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>Dr. Ayyathan Gopalan<\/b><b> (1861\u20131948) &#8220;<\/b><b><i>Darsarji<\/i><\/b><b>&#8220;, <\/b><b><i>Rao Sahib<\/i><\/b><b> (Title honor given by British)<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Gopalan was born in Thalassery.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is the founder of the Suguna Vardhini movement and a leader and propagandist of Brahmo Samaj in Kerala.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0He started the Kozhikode branch of <strong>Brahmosamaj<\/strong> in 1898.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0He also founded Chandavarkar Elementary School in Kozhikode to encourage education among Dalits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the year 1900, Dr. Gopalan ignited reform activities by initiating <strong>Suguna Vardhini movement<\/strong> in order to foster human values in children and to protect the rights of women, children, and the downtrodden sections such as the Harijan communities of the society and educate them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He left for his heavenly abode on <\/span><b>2 May 1948<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, at the age of 87.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Agamananda Swami (1896\u20131961)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>He was born on 27 August 1896 in Chavara, Kollam.<\/li>\n<li>His real name was Krishnan Nambyathiri.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Established <\/span><b>Sanatana Dharma Vidyarthi Sangam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Brahmanandodayam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The magazines started by him \u2013 <\/span><b>Amruthavani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Prabuddha Keralam<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Works \u2013 <\/span><b>Vivekananda Sandesham<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Sree Sankara Bhagavat Gita Vyakhyanam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Vishnu Puranam<\/b><\/li>\n<li>He established the first ashrama in Thrissur in 1935 and another one in the bank of river Periyar in 1936.<\/li>\n<li>Established Ramakrishna Ashram in Kaladi in 1936.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Ananda Theerthan (1905\u20131987)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0His real name was Ananda Shenoy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0He was close to Sree Narayana Guru and worked against casteism.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0He assumed his new name at Sarada temple at Sivagiri in 1928.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0He established Sree Narayana School in Payyannur in 1931.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0He promoted inter caste-marriage through the <strong>Jathinashini Sabha, founded in 1933<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span Kumaran Ashan was born on 12 April 1873 in a merchant family belonging to the Ezhava Communist in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is also known as<strong> Mahakavi Kumaran Ashan<\/strong>, the prefix Mahakavi, awarded by Madras University in 1922, which means &#8220;great poet&#8221; and the suffix Ashan means &#8220;scholar&#8221; or &#8220;teacher&#8221;.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was also a philosopher, a social reformer and a disciple of Sree Narayana Guru<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He got a job as a primary school teacher and an accountant to a wholesaler at the age of 14, he quit the job two years later to pursue higher studies in Sanskrit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He undertook a studentship in poetry under <strong>Manamboor Govindan Asan.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He wished to learn Yoga and Tantra and worked as an apprentice in a Muruga temple at Vakkom.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He died aged 51 as a result of a boat accident in January 1924 while traveling to Kollam from a function in Alappuzha.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Sahodaran Ayyappan \/ K.
