The meaning is pretty simple. Banks that are region-specific and local. They are government banks operating at the regional level in different states of India. Originally set up to provide basic banking facilities to the rural, they have expanded to urban areas too.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Functions_of_RRB\"><\/span>Functions of RRB<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The area of operation is limited to how much the government has allowed. It&#8217;s one or more districts in a state<\/li>\n<li>They provide banking facilities to rural and semi-urban areas. The first five Regional Rural Banks were set up on the Gandhi Jayanthi of 1975 (2 October 2975). The government may own them, but private banks also sponsor them in return for 35% of the shares. The first RRB was in Uttar Pradesh and sponsored by Syndicate Bank.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Organizational_Structure\"><\/span>Organizational Structure<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The structure varies based on the nature and size of business done. The main objective\/goal of establishing RRBs in India was to provide credit to the rural people who are not economically strong enough especially small farmers, agricultural labourers and artisans.
