Department of I.T allocates the digits randomly which is a combination of the letters like AXT or XRT.<\/li>\n<li>The fourth character represents the\u00a0status of the PAN cardholder. Under Section 160 of IT Act, 1961, a non-resident, minor, lunatic, idiot, and a court of wards and such other persons may be represented through a Representative Assessee(will be the applicant).<\/li>\n<li>Opening a bank account requires PAN details for savings or a current account in both private and nationalized banks.<\/li>\n<li>For loans, fixed deposits, cash deposits, bank drafts, banker&#8217;s cheque, pay orders, also need PAN card details.<\/li>\n<li>Deposits with the post office, co-operative banks, non-banking financial companies, need PAN details, for an amount greater than 5 lakh.<\/li>\n<li>Also, for applying for a credit or debit card, the bank needs PAN card details to be furnished by the applicant.<\/li>\n<li>It is also essential for opening Demat Account, to hold shares in dematerialized form.<\/li>\n<li>IT Returns Filing: All individuals and entities who are eligible for Income tax are expected to file their IT returns. A PAN card is necessary for the filing of IT returns and is the primary reason individuals, as well as other entities, apply for one.<\/li>\n<li>To claim tax deductions and tax refunds.<\/li>\n<li>For buying or selling a motor vehicle, except two-wheelers above five lakh.
