About CTET Exam

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level exam, The CTET exam comprises two papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. The CTET Paper 1 tests the eligibility of candidates as Primary (Classes 1 to 5) or Elementary (Classes 6 to 8) teachers. Candidates need to clear the exam to attain eligibility to teach in Central Government schools such as KVS, NVS, etc. The CTET exam is held every year.
CTET Exam: Selection Process 2024
If you wish to become a teacher in a government school, then you have to clear a written exam and score minimum qualifying marks to get the CTET certificate. You need to download the CTET certificate by entering login credentials to Digilocker.
  • You must note that if you belong to any reserved category such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Specially-Abled Groups, then you will be given reservation in minimum qualifying marks.
  • In Government Schools, Teachers are hired for positions in Classes I-VIII through the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), which is held every year by the CBSE.
  • The CTET written exam is divided into two parts- Paper 1 and Paper 2.
  • If you wish to become a Teacher for Classes 1-V , then you will have to appear for CTET Paper 1 only.
  • If you wish to become a Teacher for Classes VI-VIII , then you will have to appear for CTET Paper 2 only.
  • If you aspire to teach Classes I-VIII , then you need to attempt and clear both CTET papers.
CTET Exam: Certificate Validity

The CTET Certificate once issued will be valid for a lifetime. This means that a candidate who once qualifies for the CTET exam will be eligible to apply for the teacher recruitment exams opened up by the government for various government schools in India. Earlier, the CTET certificate had a validity of 7 years, but the recent amendments made by the Ministry of Education of India extended the CTET certificate validity from 7 years to a lifetime. That's quite good news among the aspirants who wish to become government teachers.

Furthermore, a qualified applicant can reapply in the subsequent CTET Exam if they believe they have improved their score. The candidate will receive a fresh CTET 2024 certificate if they receive higher marks than in their prior try.

CTET Exam: Frequency of Exams

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted twice every year to test the conceptual understanding rather than the factual knowledge of the aspirants for teaching recruitment.

CTET Exam: Application Fee

Applicants from the General/OBC(NCL) category must pay ₹1000 for a single CTET paper; applicants from the SC/ST and PH categories just need to pay ₹500.

The application fee is ₹1200 for General/OBC(NCL) applicants and ₹600 for SC/ST and PH candidates if they are applying for both Paper I and II.

CTET Exam: Minimum Qualifying Marks

CTET Cut-Off 2024 refers to the minimum qualifying marks a candidate needs to secure in order to clear the teacher eligibility exam.

This year, the minimum qualifying percentage for unreserved candidates is 60%. Meanwhile, the minimum percentage for reserved candidates is 55%.

Candidates who belong to the general category need to score 90 marks to qualify for the exam, whereas candidates from the SC/ST/OBC category need to score 82 marks to qualify the CTET exam.

CTET Educational Qualification 2024

CTET Educational Qualification for CTET Paper I

If you intend to teach classes I to V, then you must meet the following educational qualification:

  • Must pass Senior Secondary or its equivalent with at least a 50% mark or appear in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the rules and regulations of NCTE /4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
    OR
  • Having at least 45% marks in Secondary level (or its equivalent) or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
    OR
  • Having 50% marks at least in Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
    OR
  • You must have cleared or are still pursuing the final year of 4 years of a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) from a recognized University/Institution (with at least 50% marks).
    OR
  • You must be having 50% marks in their Bachelor’s Degree (Graduation) and having a B.Ed. such candidates will have to undergo a six-month Bridge course in Elementary Education which is NCTE recognized within 2 years of appointment as primary teacher.

CTET Educational Qualification for CTET Paper II

If you intend to teach Class 6-8, then you must meet the following educational qualifications:

  • Must pass Senior Secondary or its equivalent with at least a 50% mark or appear in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education/4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) /B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed

  • You must have passed or appeared in the final year of Graduation or a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education

  • You must have 50% marks in Graduation or appearing in 1-year B.Ed/B. Ed in Special Education

CTET Eligibility Criteria: Nationality

Nationality is the first aspect seen by the higher authorities before proceeding with the candidate for further rounds. The candidate must be an Indian Citizen or should meet any one of the below criteria.

  1. A Subject from Nepal.
  2. A Subject From Bhutan.
  3. A Tibetian who came over to India before 1st January 1962 intended to settle in India Permanently.
  4. The candidates migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Burma with the intention of settling in India permanently.
