For National Emergency a written statement is required by the Union Cabinet requesting the President to declare emergency under Article 352 on grounds of war, external aggression or armed rebellion as the case may be. National emergency can be extended for a period of 6 months at a time subject to Parliamentary sanction, indefinitely.
