Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan or SSA is the Indian government’s scheme for global standard basic education. (SSA).
Although it was started in the year 2000-2001, a similar scheme called District Primary Education Project (DPEP) was in existence since 1993-1994.
This project was started in 272 districts in 18 states of India.
85 percent of the cost of the project is borne by the central government and the rest by the state government.
