There are 2 types of transformer; the conventional wound type and potential transformer.
Large amount of heat is losed when power distributed to large areas in a conductor.It is called power loss.
Step up transformer is used to decrease the output current and increase the out put voltage which is 220v at power station. So power loss can be eliminated. Then the volt is decresed at distribution transformers and 11Kv electricity is produced.
