Q. A four stroke diesel engine has 3000 power strokes per minute altogether in the engine. What is the speed of engine in rpm
Solution:
- A four-stroke engine is an internal combustion engine that utilises four distinct piston strokes (intake, compression, power, and exhaust) to complete one operating cycle.
- A complete operation in a four-stroke engine requires two revolutions of the crankshaft.
- In a four stroke engine one power stroke occurs in 2 revolutions. So speed of engine = 3000 x 2 = 6000 rpm.
- Since it takes two crankshaft revolutions to complete one four-stroke cycle, the complete cycle will be completed at half the engine RPM e.g engine running at 6000 RPM will complete 3000 complete cycles in one minute.
