Q. Ferranti effect will be experienced in a long overhead line when……………………………………….. .

A
The line is loaded with unity power factor
B
The line is loaded fully
C
The line is heavily loaded
D
The line is lightly loaded
Solution:

Ferranti effect is the increase in voltage occurring at the receiving end of a very long (> 200 km) AC electric power transmission line, relative to the voltage at the sending end, when the load is very small, or no load is connected. This is due to the effect of the charging current that may arise by the capacitance offered by the transmission line which is negligible for short transmission lines.
