Solution:
  • American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) is the most commonly used format for text files in computers. ASCII is currently in two formats: standard ASCII and extended ASCII.

  • In standard ASCII format, there are 128 symbols and each alphabetic, numeric, or special character is represented with a 7-bit binary number.

  • In extended ASCII format, there are 256 characters represented by 8 bits, and these additional characters are used to represent additional symbols (e.g. foreign letters, currency symbols, drawing symbols, etc.).
