Quit India Movement, originally a strategic peaceful movement to pressurize the British, soon turned to be a spontaneous violent revolt after the arrest of the Congress Leaders.
Under the title ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ the British left no means to bring the movement to its end. By the time the revolt lost its momentum, over one lakh people got arrested, over ten thousand people had died in police and military firings and thousands of others suffered injuries.
