Q. Rated load of an underground cable is always __ the natural load
Solution:
The loading at which the inductive and capacitive reactive VA are equal and opposite, is called surge impedance loading (SIL) i.e. the loading is resistive.
This SIL is also called as natural load of the transmission line as power is not dissipated during transmission. SIL is the ideal power transfer.
SIL is thus the maximum load which can be transferred . Therefore the rated load of UG cable is less than natural load (SIL).
