The headquarters of the Indo-Norwegian Fisheries Community project, established in 1953, was based in Neendakara until 1961, when the site was handed over to the Government of Kerala.

India’s first titanium sponge plant (TSP) was developed by KMML (Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd) is in Chavra ,inaugurated in 2011 by the then Defence Minister of India, AK Antony . IRE (Indian Rare Earths Ltd) is another public sector unit located in Chavara.
