OET Test available in three test formats. The first one is OET on a paper at a test venue, which is the oldest test format ever since the OET exam emerged as an assessment for medical professionals, the second option is to attempt the test on a computer at a test venue, and the third test gives one a liberty to attempt the test in the comfort at one’s home on a computer. The aspirants may choose any one of the options and can sit for the exam as per one’s chosen format.

OET on Paper at a Test Venue

The OET paper test is the exam delivery mode for OET students for over 30 years. OET tests, in general, have 4 components (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening).

OET on Computer at a Test Venue

The OET test on the Computer (at test venues) has the same exam format. The test will be evaluated by the highly-trained examiners who mark paper-based OET. 

OET at Home

OET at Home is for candidates to attend the exam from their own home. OET at home will have the same format, timing and difficulty as a test in the OET test venue. A reliable desktop/laptop with a good internet connection is the basic requirement.

The OET exam eligibility criteria are designed to ensure that candidates have the qualifications and background to work as healthcare professionals in English-speaking environments. The OET exam eligibility criteria include the following:

• Age Requirements: The OET test does not have a minimum age restriction.

• Education Qualifications: Applicants must have a valid healthcare qualification, such as a nursing degree, medical degree, or another relevant healthcare degree.

• Work Experience: Candidates might be required by various healthcare boards, councils, and organizations to have a specific level of work experience in the healthcare industry.

The speaking, listening, reading, and writing parts combine to form the four parts of the OET test. The purpose of the test structure is to evaluate the candidate's capacity to communicate successfully in a healthcare setting as well as the language abilities necessary for real-world medical situations.

Speaking

In order to complete the speaking portion, the candidate and an interlocutor role-play as a patient or a fellow healthcare practitioner. In a clinical setting, the applicant must show that they can speak clearly and with the right vocabulary. There are twenty minutes allotted for this section. 

Listening

The audio files for the listening component include talks and consultations with medical professionals that have been recorded. It is required of candidates to fully understand the content included in the recordings and to answer questions in accordance with their comprehension. The Listening portion lasts for forty-five minutes. 

Reading

The reading component consists of various texts, including case notes, medical reports, and patient information. Candidates are required to understand and demonstrate their understanding of the information presented in the texts. The approximate time for this section is 60 minutes. 

Writing

The writing component consists of a letter, email, or report based on a clinical scenario. Candidates must demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively in writing, using appropriate language and format for a healthcare environment. This section is concluded in 45 minutes.
