Frequently Asked Question

The GATE exam is usually held in February. The application process typically starts in September or October. Specific dates may vary each year, so candidates should regularly check the official GATE website for updates.
No, there is no age limit for appearing in the GATE exam. As long as candidates meet the educational eligibility criteria, they can appear for the exam irrespective of their age.
The GATE Mechanical Engineering exam consists of two sections: General Aptitude (GA) and the subject-specific section, which includes questions from various topics within Mechanical Engineering.
The qualifying marks for GATE can vary from year to year and also depend on factors such as the difficulty level of the paper. Generally, candidates need to score above a certain cutoff determined by the conducting authority to qualify for admission or recruitment.
Yes, there is a negative marking for wrong answers in the multiple-choice questions (MCQs) section. For 1-mark MCQs, 1/3 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer, and for 2-mark MCQs, 2/3 mark will be deducted. However, there is no negative marking for numerical answer type (NAT) questions.
Improving problem-solving skills requires regular practice and exposure to a variety of questions. Start with understanding the concepts thoroughly and then move on to solving problems from different sources such as textbooks, previous years' question papers, and online practice portals.
Qualifying for GATE in Mechanical Engineering opens up various opportunities. Candidates can pursue higher studies such as M.Tech or Ph.D. in reputed institutions both in India and abroad. Moreover, many PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) and private companies also recruit GATE-qualified candidates for positions in research, development, design, and other technical roles.
