  1. Three pipes A, B and C can fill a cistern in 12 hours. After working at it for 6 hours, C is closed and A and B can fill it in 10 hours more. How many hours will C alone take to fill the cistern?

Answer: Option A
  • In 6 hours A, B and C would have filled 6 x \( \frac{1}{12}, \) = \( \frac{1}{2}, \)of the cistern.

    Remaining part is 1 – \( \frac{1}{2}, \) = \( \frac{1}{2}, \)

    which A and B have filled in 10 hours. → A and B can fill the whole cistern in 10 x \( \frac{2}{1}, \) = 20 hours.

  • Its given that A, B and C can fill the tank in 12 hours.

    So C can fill the cistern alone in \( \frac{1}{12}, \) – \( \frac{1}{20}, \) = \( \frac{1}{30}, \) = 30.

Hence C alone would take 30 hours to fill the tank.

  • Answer is 30h.
  1. The price of a Gold is directly proportional to the cube of its weight. If Gold is broken into the ratio of 4 : 5 : 4, then find out the percentage decrease in its price:

Answer: Option D
  • Let weigtht be 10 gm price =10\(^{3}\)=1000
  • Weight of their prices = 4 : 5 : 4
  • Their values = 4 gm, 5gm, 4gm
  • Their prices =4\(^{3}\)+5\(^{3}\)+4\(^{3}\)=64+125+64=253
  • Difference =1000-253=747
  • % of difference =\(\frac{ 747}{1000}×100=74.7\%\)
  1. Suman, Samar and Shreshth works in a company. Their salaries are in the ratio 7 : 5 : 8 . There is made a proposal to increase their salaries by 50%, 40% and 75% respectively. What will be the ratio of increased salaries?

Answer: Option A
  • Let originally the salary of Suman,Samar and Shreshth are \(7x ,5x\) and \(8x\) respectively.
  • The increased salary will be , \((150\%\) of \(7x), (140\%\) of \(5x) \) and \( (175\%\) of \(8x)\)

    \( ⇒ \left(\frac{150}{100}\times 7x\right) :\left(\frac{140}{100}\times 5x\right) :\left(\frac{175}{100}\times 8x\right)\)

  • Therefore, the required ratio \(= \frac{21}{2}x :7x :14x\)\(⇒21x : 14x : 28x\)

    \(⇒3:2:4\)

  1. Ahmet walks from his house to the post office which is 125 meter away in 3 minutes and walk back in 2 minutes. His average speed in km/h is:

Answer: Option B
  • Averege speed=\(\frac{total distance}{total time}\)

    Total distance=\(125\times2\)=250 m

Time=2+3=5 minute=\(5\times60\)sec

Averege speed=\(\frac{250}{5\times60}\)

  • Convert into km/h

=\(\frac{250}{5\times60}\times\frac{18}{5}\)=3 km/h

  • Answer is 3km/hr.
  1. The difference between compound interest and simple interest on an amount of 32000 for 2 years is Rs.115.2. What is the rate of interest per annum?

Answer: Option C
  • Difference between compound interest and simple interest on an amount of P for 2 years =\(P\times(\frac{r}{100})^{2}\)
  • here,p=32000 difference=115.2 so, \(32000\times(\frac{r}{100})^{2}\)=115.2

    \(32000\times(\frac{r^{2}}{10000})\)=115.2

    \(r^{2}=\frac{11520}{320}=36\)

    r=\(\sqrt{36}=6\)

  • rate of interest =6%
  • Answer is 6%.
