National Highways (NH) are a network of major roads, usually connecting two or more cities, port, airport and other places. NH is owned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It is constructed and managed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), and the public works departments (PWD) of state governments. NH 47 Walayar – Kaliyikkavila
NH 47 has a length of 640 km. It starts from Salem and ends at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. It enters Kerala at Walayar and goes till Kaliyikkavila covering a distance of 416.80 Kilometres. NH47 is passing through the districts in Kerala such as Coimbatore, Thrissur, Ernakulam Alappuzha, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram and Nagerkovil covering 416.80 kilometres. It intersects with NH 17 at Ernakulam, NH 47A at Kudannoor near Kochi, NH 208 at Kollam, NH 213 at Palakkad, NH 67 and 209 at Coimbatore and NH 7 at Salem.
NH 17 Thalappadi – Edappally
National Highway 17 has a length of 1269 km. It starts from Panvel and ends at Edappally in Kochi, Kerala. This road passes through Panvel, Mahad, Panaji, Karwar, Mangalore, Kannur, Kozhikode, Feroke, Kuttipuram, Pudu and Ponnani before joining with NH 47 at Edapally in Kochi. This long road traverses 482 km in Maharashtra, 139 km in Goa, 280 km in Karnataka and 368 km in Kerala.
NH 49 Bodymettu – Kundannoor
National Highway 49 has a length of 290 km. The highway starts at Kundanoor near Cochin bypass and ends at the eastern tip of Rameshwaram Island. NH 49 traverses a total distance of 150 km before entering Tamil Nadu at Bodimettu. Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam and Munnar.In Tamilnadu, it passes through Theni, Madurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram and Rameshwaram before ending at Dhanushkodi.
47A Kundannoor – Wiilington Island
National Highway 47A is the shortest highway in India. It has a length of 6 km.It links the man-made isle of Willingdon Island with Kochi bye-pass.
NH 208 Kollam – Aryankavu
National Highway 49 has a length of 195 km. The NH starts from Kollam and ends at Thirumangalam in Tamilnadu. It travers 70 km in Kerala. Kollam, It crosses Kundara, Kottarakkara, Thenmala, and Punalur towns in Kerala. It leaves at Arankavu and goes through Thenkasi, Sivaagiri, Rajapalayam and Srivilliputhir before joining with NH7 at Thirumangalam about 18 kilometeres at Madurai.

NH 212 Kozhikode – Moolahalla
National Highway 212 has a total length of 250 kilometeres in total. It starts from NH17 at Kozhikode and ends at Muthanga-Karnataka. The NH traverses through Vythiri, Kalpatta, Sultan Batheri towns. It joins at NH209 at Kollagal-Karnataka.
NH 213 Palakkad – Kozhikode
National Highway 213 has a length of 130 km. It starts at Kozhikode and ends at Palakkad. It takes a deviation from NH 17 at Feroke and passes through Narukara, Malappuram and Perinthalmanna before merging with NH 47 at Palakkad.
NH 220 Kollam – Theni
National Highway 220 has a total length of 265 Kilometers. It starts from NH47 Tamilnadu-Theni and ends at Kollam on NH47.
NH 544 Salem-Kochi
The highway starts from its junction with NH-44 near Salem connecting Coimbatore in the State of Tamil Nadu, Palakkad, Thrissur and terminating at its junction with NH-66 near Ernakulam in the State of Kerala. The total length of this NH in Kerala is 160 km. The total length of the NH is 340 km.
NH 744 Kollam-Madurai
The highway starting from its junction with NH-44 near Tirumangalam connecting Srivilliputtur, Rajapalaiyam, Tenkasi, Puliyur in the State of Tamil Nadu, Punalur, Kottarakara and terminating at its junction with NH- 66 near Kollam in the State of Kerala. The length of the NH in Kerala is 81.28 km. The total length of the NH is 206 km.
NH 66
The total length of this NH is 1622 km. The NH runs roughly north–south along the western coast of India, parallel to the Western Ghats. The highway starting from its junction with NH-48 near Panvel connecting Indapur, Mahad, Rajapur, Kudal in the State of Maharashtra, Panaji, Margao in the State of Goa, Karwar, Honavar, Udupi, Mangalore in the State of Karnataka, Kasaragod, Kannur, Ponnani, Edappally, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram in the State of Kerala and terminating at its junction with NH-44 near Kanyakumari in the State of Tamil Nadu. The total length of the NH in Kerala is 677.77 km.
NH 766 Kozhikode-Karnataka
The highway starting from its junction with NH-66 near Kozikode connecting Kalpetta in the State of Kerala, Gundlulpet, Mysore and terminating at its junction with NH-948 near Kollegal in the State of Karnataka. The total length of the NH is 272 km. The length of the NH in Kerala is 117.6 km.
NH 185
This NH spans over a length of 98 km. The highway starting from its junction with new NH No. 85 near Adimali connecting Cheruthoni, Painavu and terminating at its junction with new NH No. 183 near Kumily in the State of Kerala.
NH 85 Kochi-Dhanushkodi
The highway starting from its junction with NH-66 near Kochi in the State of Kerala connecting Ernakulam, Muvattupula, Devikulam in the State of Kerala Teni, Madurai, Tiruppuvanam, Povandhi, Sivaganga, Kalaiyarkoil Tiruvadanai and terminating at Tondi point in the State of Tamil Nadu. The total length of the NH is 468 km. This NH stretches over a length of 167.6 km in Kerala.
NH 183 Kollam-DIndigul
Connects Theni, Uttamapalaiyam in the State of Tamilnadu, Kumily, Pirmed, Kanjirappali, Kottayam, Chegannoor, Kollakadavu, Chakkuvally, Anchalmmod and terminating at its junction with NH-66 at Kollam in the State of Kerala. The length of NH in Kerala is 216.3 km. The total length of the NH is 342 km.
NH 183 A
The highway starting from its junction with new NH No. 183 near Bharanikavu connecting Adur Pathanamthitta, Vadserikkara, Lahai, and terminating at its junction with new NH No. 183 near Vandiperiyar in the State of Kerala. The length of NH in Kerala is 116.8 km.
