SSC JE 2026 Vacancy: 1,748 Posts

SSC has announced 1,748 tentative vacancies for this recruitment cycle. The final, category-wise and post-wise vacancy break-up will be published separately on the SSC website under “For Candidates > Tentative Vacancy.” State-wise or zone-wise vacancy details are not maintained by the Commission — candidates are advised to check with the respective user department for that information.

Eligibility varies slightly by organization and post, but broadly falls into these categories:

• JE (Civil): Degree in Civil Engineering, OR a 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering plus 2 years of relevant work experience (organization-dependent)
• JE (Electrical) / JE (Mechanical) / JE (Electrical & Mechanical): Degree or 3-year Diploma in the respective engineering discipline, with work-experience requirements varying by organization
• JE (Telecom), DoT: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or Instrumentation

SSC JE 2026 Selection Process

1. Paper-I (CBE): Qualifying stage; shortlists candidates for Paper-II based on normalized marks
2. Paper-II (CBE): Determines final merit; scores are normalized across shifts and, for Mechanical/Electrical streams, across question papers
3. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must produce original certificates for educational qualification, experience, category, and age proof
4. Medical Examination / Physical Standards: Applicable specifically to posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which also has a Physical Efficiency Test

Final selection and post allocation is based on the candidate’s normalized Paper-II score combined with their post-preference order.

SSC JE 2026 Exam Pattern

The Computer Based Examination (CBE) is conducted in two stages — Paper-I and Paper-II.

Paper-I

• Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates)
• Objective-type, multiple-choice questions in Hindi and English
• Negative marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer
• Paper-I is qualifying in nature — used only to shortlist candidates for Paper-II

Paper-II

• Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates)
• Negative marking: 1 mark per wrong answer
• Only normalized scores of Paper-II are used to determine the final merit list

Candidates get access to the IS 456:2000 Code of Practice / Steam Table and an on-screen scientific calculator during the exam wherever applicable — no physical reference material is allowed inside the exam lab.

SSC JE 2026 Salary – Pay Scale

Selected candidates will be placed in Pay Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix, with a basic pay scale of ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400. In-hand salary will additionally include Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance as applicable to the posting location, along with standard government benefits like medical coverage and pension (NPS).
