India ranked at 10th position in ITU’s Global Cybersecurity Index 2020
- India has been ranked as the 10th best country in the world in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2020, released by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on June 29, 2021.
- The GCI 2020 is the fourth edition of the annual index and ranked 194 countries.
- India scored 97.5 points from 100 points to rank among the top ten best countries in the world.
- The United States has topped the GCI 2020.
- The United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia are tied to the second position.

Asia’s longest high-speed track “NATRAX” for automobiles inaugurated in Indore
- The Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Shri Prakash Javadekar virtually inaugurated a High-Speed Track (HST), NATRAX, in Indore on June 29, 2021.
- NATRAX is the longest high-speed track in Asia, measuring 11.3 km in length, developed in an area of 1000 acres of land.
- It will serve as a one-stop solution for all sorts of high-speed performance tests for all categories of vehicles ranging from 2 wheelers to heavy tractor-trailers.
Venue of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 moved from India to UAE and Oman
- The venue for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 has been shifted from India to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. The tournament will be held from October 17 to November 14, 2021.
- Originally, the tournament was to be staged in India but had to be shifted, following the second wave of Covid-19 in the country.
- However, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) will remain the hosts of the event in the UAE and Oman.

- The International Plastic Bag Free Day is held on July 3 around the world to spread awareness that a plastic bag-free world is possible and that sound environmental alternatives to single-use plastic bags are available.

Grene Robotics develops India’s first indigenous drone defence dome ‘Indrajaal’
- Hyderabad-based company Grene Robotics has designed and developed India’s first autonomous drone defence dome called “Indrajaal”.
- Indrajaal is an autonomous defence weapon system, to identify and counter threats, using technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, and robotics.
- Indrajaal can protect a large area of 1,000-2,000 sq km per system against threats such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), incoming weapons (missiles), loitering munitions, and Low-Radar Cross Section (low flying) targets autonomously

- The journalist-author Sundeep Misra has come out with his new book titled ‘Fiercely Female: The Dutee Chand Story’ . Dutee Chand is the first openly homosexual athlete from India.

Indian Journalist P Sainath wins Japan’s Fukuoka Grand Prize for 2021
- Renowned Indian journalist and founder of PARI (People’s Archive of Rural India), Palagummi Sainath has been awarded the Fukuoka Grand Prize for 2021.
- The award is given to individuals and organizations for their work in preserving Asian culture, by Japan’s Fukuoka city and the Fukuoka City International Foundation.
- The Fukuoka Prize is given in three categories: Academic Prize, Culture Prize, and Grand Prize.
- Among these, the Grand Prize is considered the biggest one.
- The last Indian to be awarded the prize was A. R. Rahman (2016).
World Bank approves USD125 million financial support program for Green and Resilient Kerala
- The World Bank Board of Executive Directors has approved a $125 million support for the ‘Resilient Kerala Program’ to help the state in preparedness against natural disasters, climate change impacts, disease outbreaks, and pandemics.
- The Resilient Kerala Program aims to:
- Incorporate disaster risk planning in the master plans of urban and local self-governments to ease financial constraints on the state government when faced with unexpected shocks
- Make the health, water resources management, agriculture, and road sectors more resilient to calamities.
Star Archer Deepika Kumari wins Hat-Trick gold medal at Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Paris
- The ace Indian archer Deepika Kumari, created a new world record as she claimed three back-to-back gold medals in a single day, on June 26, 2021, during the Archery World Cup Stage 3, held in Paris from 21 to 27, June 2021.
- The Ranchi daughter claimed gold in each of women’s recurve individual, team, and mixed pair events.
- India topped the medals tally with four gold medals.
