April 2 is commemorated as World Autism Awareness Day 2024. Did you know that CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics revealed that ASD or autism spectrum disorder is 4.3 times more prevalent in boys than it is in girls? This is because girls “ go undiagnosed often because they don’t fit autism stereotypes and they can mask symptoms better than boys do,” as per the Child Mind Institute. There is no better way to observe this day than by becoming aware of the characteristics of people diagnosed with this condition and what all of us can do better to increase our own understanding and promote kindness towards them.
