Can happiness be a choice? I wonder if the roofless can find happiness in rain? A depressed
soul finds happiness in poetry?
Or is it a destination? A journey that fills you with hope, and gives you the courage to take each
step one after the other?
Walking down the muddy road holding three children in her hands, breathlessness tightening
her veins, her mind wandering off, Sajitha heard the wind stop whistling and started howling with
a thousand thoughts.
A penniless family woman turning suddenly into a widow, shocked by the death of her
husband’s accident, leaving her alone with three children and aged parents to look after! Sajitha
couldn’t think of anything else but her husband Subhash, his love and affection. Everything she
looked around seemed to remind her of him. He ran to the neighbourhood whenever needed,
sometimes the money earned with sweat was meant for his friends in need. He was not only her
sweetheart but also to the people around him. His thoughts shattered her consciousness for
months. She couldn’t pamper even her children, take care of their studies, or even do the daily
chores.
Whatever fate brings, the poorest need to meet two ends, right? She went to different homes as
a housemaid, reaped paddy fields, worked in a cashew nut factory, sold lotteries, and did
whatever work she could, to take care of her little ones and ailing parents. One day, as she was
back from her work, walking through the unpaved path, came across a few ladies, much
younger than her, indulging in a combined study for PSC. This scene excited her thoughts. She
started thinking about the possibility of joining them after work. But being an average student
and a BTech dropout, would a 37 old be able to cope with those young ladies? Questions of
self-doubt popped up in her mind.
Sajitha decided to ask them if they could add her too and they held her up. From the next
evening, Entri’s classes fueled her determination. While cleaning the floor, reaping the fields,
sieving the cashew nuts, and traveling to and fro, Sajitha got addicted to earphones. After work,
she walked as quickly as possible to join them. Her mother-in-law took care of the children, as
she was reluctant to drift from studies even for a single minute. No wonder, such a determined
woman could get into LGS- Thiruvananthapuram main list. Sajitha couldn’t control her emotions
seeing the festive occasion of Entri’s Rank Holders’ Meet-up. The countless grinning faces of
the rank holders, meeting the teachers for the first time, and receiving a ‘ponnada,’ all seemed
like a dream for her. We at Entri, appreciate the hard work and determination of people like
Sajitha. No matter how bitter life seems, they put in the effort to make it buttery. Being
employed, she now dreams of building a library in memory of her beloved husband, Subhash.
We hope she will fulfill that dream just like this!
