International Pillow fight day is a global occasion celebrated in many cities that takes place on the first Saturday in April and will be celebrated on April 2 in 2022. From Hong Kong to Vancouver to Dallas to London pillows are getting stuffed and equipped to hold soft fights on this day. It’s free, so families and friends are pleased to take part. In many cities, pillows and income will go towards the homeless. On this date, massive pillow fights will take place in cities around the world including London, New York, Rotterdam, and Seattle, to name just a few.

The first World Pillow Fight day took place in March 2008, and since then the movement has grown with pillow fighting flash mobs active in more and more areas, cities, and even countries every year, all just in the name of fun.

International Pillow Fight Day 2022: History

The mass was on the rise; people were gathering everywhere to engross in spontaneous acts of sanity that brought absolute strangers together and turned it into lots of fun in interactive ways. Pillow fights likely existed for as long as there have been pillows, but modern technology and a love of the truly absurd have brought them superiority and popularity that never before was planned.

Influenced by the fantastic film Fight Club, where some boys came together to strip themselves of society’s individuality and recover their raw masculinity through bare-fisted boxing, after, Pillow Fight Clubs started popping up all over the world.

It was limited at first, but it continued to develop, with Pillow Fight Clubs starting up in San Francisco and New Manhattan, London, and Vancouver, until all of a sudden in one grand move of commonality, the World International Pillow Fight Day took place in 22^nd March 2008. Since then, International Pillow Fight Days continue to be observed by anyone and everyone every year globally.

The day takes us away from the depression and stress of the world around us and brings everyone together on an occasion of something we all knew we craved but didn’t realize was necessary for us.

The world’s largest pillow fight started in places far and near, with back-alley brawlers swinging duvets (pillows) in Boston, and ponder (pillows) being swung in Copenhagen, in Paris ornamental pillows were locked in battle as pillows were bashed into cushions in Stockholm.

Such was the insanity that World International Pillow Fight Day formed in every corner of the sphere, and infinite pounds of stuffing and feathers were spilled in the name of fun. And, when the feather’s settled, those who got engaged understood that the same must happen again annually until all the pillow resources of the globe had been put to rest.

But even if you’re not your town’s  Tyler Durden (which is a great thing), there’s still the opportunity to get participating. Whether it’s friends and peers savoring the chance to show each other who’s the boss, siblings and cousins trying to experience some of the carefree enjoyment of the sleepovers of their childhood and teenage, or even strangers hoping to blow off some steam without dedication like in wars, or even (hopefully) long-lasting injuries, International Pillow Fight Day gives everyone the excuse to modify their trustworthy pillows into arms that will lead them to triumph.

International Pillow Fight Day 2022: Rules

It will all be a lot of fun, but there are some rules that you are expected to follow. These rules can change from city to city so ensure that you take a look at them before jumping in. The most common rules that should be followed are:

1.Use soft pillows only

2.Swing lightly and don’t cause injuries

3.Do not swing at people with cameras.

4.Do not swing at people without pillows.

5.Bring a bag to help with clean up after.

Also remember not to use feather pillows due to animal welfare concerns whereas some actively encourage the use of feather pillows describing it as more fun. If you are not sure what kind of pillows you should use, the best one can use are the synthetic ones.
