A candidate can apply for more than one category if eligible, but each category requires a separate application and separate fee — no combined application is allowed, though the exam can be attempted for multiple categories if timings don’t clash.

K-TET Categories and Category-Wise Eligibility Criteria

KTET Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for appearing in the K-TET exam.

K-TET is conducted across four categories, each corresponding to a different teaching level.

KTET Category I – Lower Primary Classes

Minimum qualification (any one of the following):

• 45% marks in Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (or equivalent) plus a pass in TTC (Teacher Training Certificate) conducted by the Kerala Government Examination Board, or a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed)
• 45% marks in Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary plus a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) as per NCTE 2002 Regulations
• 50% marks in Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary plus a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
• 50% marks in Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary plus a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)

Candidates who were appointed and in service before K-TET became mandatory (G.O.(P) No.70/2012 dated 01/03/2012) with SSLC + TTC qualifications, and those holding TTC qualifications recognized under the rules in force before K-TET was introduced, are also eligible to apply for Category I, as per subsequent government orders.

KTET Category II – Upper Primary Classes

Minimum qualification (any one of the following):

• A Bachelor’s degree plus a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed/D.El.Ed) with at least 45% marks
• 45% marks in a Bachelor’s degree plus B.Ed/D.LEd (subject to applicable NCTE norms)
• 50% marks in Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary plus a 4-year B.El.Ed
• 50% marks in Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary plus a 4-year BA.Ed or B.Sc.Ed
• Academic and training qualifications prescribed under Chapter XXXI, Schedule 3 of the Kerala Education Rules (KER), along with a B.Ed, as recognized by Kerala universities for admission to B.Ed courses
• Any other qualification accepted for Category II K-TET by Kerala universities, including a BBA degree where recognized

Final-year students of D.Ed/D.El.Ed/B.Ed (3rd/4th semester) can also apply, provided they submit a certificate from their institution head confirming their 2nd-year student status at the time of application.

KTET Category III – High School Classes (HST)

Applicable for High School Teacher (HST) posts in: Malayalam, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Kannada, Arabic, Urdu, Social Science, Physical Science, Natural Science, and Mathematics.

Minimum qualification (any one of the following):

• 45% marks in a Bachelor’s degree (BA/B.Sc/B.Com) plus a B.Ed in the same subject
• B.Ed admission secured on the basis of Post-Graduation marks — also recognized for K-TET as per S.O.(Aided) No.172/2018 dated 04/12/2018
• A degree in Mathematics, Physical Science, Chemistry, Botany, or Zoology with a minimum of 50% marks plus an M.Sc Ed degree in the same subject from a regional institute run/recognized by NCERT
• Candidates with combined Botany and Zoology, with at least 50% aggregate, holding an M.Sc Ed in Life Science from a regional institute, are also eligible
• 45% marks in BA plus a pass in LTTC/D.LEd also qualifies for Category III

KTET Category IV – Language & Specialist Teachers

For Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Urdu language teachers up to Upper Primary level, and Physical Education and Art & Craft specialist teachers up to VHSE level, as per G.O.(MS) No.59/2024/Public Education Dept dated 10/06/2024 and G.O.(MS) No.154/2024/Public Education Dept dated 19/12/2024, and eligibility criteria prescribed under Chapter XXXI of the Kerala Education Rules.

Note: Degrees/qualifications recognized by the Kerala Government, Pareeksha Bhavan, NCTE, or any Kerala university are treated equally for Category III eligibility, regardless of which university the candidate graduated from.

K-TET Exam Pattern 2026 – (Category-Wise)

The exam is a Multiple Choice Question (MCQS) test conducted through OMR sheets. Every question carries 1 mark, and there is no negative marking. Total marks for every category is 150, from 150 questions.

How to Apply for KTET September 2026 – Step by Step

3. Fill in your personal details, category, medium, part, and subject — exactly as per your qualifying certificates
4. Upload a photograph as per the specified format (background must be plain, no KPSC or other seals, taken within the last 6 months)
5. Carefully verify all details before clicking ‘Confirm’ — once confirmed, no further edits are possible
6. Proceed to payment and complete the fee transaction
7. Take a printout of your final submitted application for your records

Important: Do not send the printout of your application or copies of certificates to Pareeksha Bhavan — they only need to be uploaded online.

KTET Application Fee 2026

Fees can be paid only through online modes — Net Banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card. Fees once paid cannot be transferred to another exam or refunded, except where covered by SBI e-Pay’s own refund policy for failed transactions.

• Only one payment is required per application, and the payment should be completed before submitting the application form.

Important Notes

• The fee must be paid through SBI e-Pay using the available payment channels on the KTET website.

Kerala TET September 2026 Admit Card

The K-TET September 2026 hall ticket will be available for download from 04/11/2026 on the official website, using your Application Number and Application ID. No admission to the exam is possible without a valid hall ticket, and it must also be produced later for certificate verification once you pass K-TET.

• 5% marks relaxation in the qualifying examination is given to SC/ST/OBC/OEC candidates.
• 10% marks relaxation in the qualifying examination is given to differently-abled candidates.
• There is no negative marking. If any question is dropped during evaluation, its marks are equally distributed among all candidates who attempted that part, and the total remains 150.
• Passing K-TET does not by itself guarantee a teaching job — it only certifies minimum eligibility; actual selection depends on meeting all other recruitment requirements set by the appointing authority.

Kerala TET September 2026 – Scribe (Writer) Facility

Candidates with 40% or more benchmark disability who need a scribe must apply to their District Education Officer at least 5 working days before the exam, along with a copy of the hall ticket and medical board certificate. Candidates with disability of 40% or above are also entitled to compensatory time as per applicable norms.

KTET September 2026 Exam Centre

Candidates can choose their preferred district as the exam center at the time of application. The exact exam venue within that district will be mentioned on the admit card. Once allotted, the center cannot be changed. Candidates must bring their admit card and a valid photo ID to the exam venue.
