- In August 2021, the BCCI stated that two new franchises would join the league starting from the 2022 season.
- It was also declared that the franchises would be based in two of the six cities shortlisted by the BCCI:
- Ahmedabad
- Cuttack
- Dharamshala
- Guwahati
- Indore
- Lucknow
- In a closed bidding that took place on 25 October 2021, RPSG Group and CVC Capital won bids for the two teams
- RPSG paid rupees 7,090 crore (US$930 million) for Lucknow, whereas CVC won Ahmedabad for Rupees 5,625 crore (US$740 million).
- The Lucknow team was called as Lucknow Super Giants on 24 January 2022, whereas the Ahmedabad team was termed as Gujarat Titans on 9 February 2022.
- Vivo emerged out as the title sponsor of the tournament on 11 January 2022
- Vivo, having previously pulled out as sponsors in 2020, had signed contract as title sponsors till 2023.
- The Tata Group was named as the title sponsor for the remainder of Vivo’s contract.

IPL 2022 – Venue
It is noteworthy that the IPL 2022 will be scheduled to be played in India. In the IPL 15, there will be 10 teams that are gonna be a good source of entertainment for the IPL or Indian Premier League fans. The 15th season of the IPL, 2022, has started in Maharashtra from 26th March 2022 with 55 games in Mumbai and 15 in Pune. . Indian Premier League popularly known as IPL begins from 26 March 2022 and will occur till 29 May 2022. The last two years, Indian Premier League had played in the UAE that is United Arab Emirates due to the pandemic that occured. Four stadiums have been selected for the league, with the break-up of the games being 20 at the Wankhede, 15 at Brabourne Stadium, 20 more at DY Patil Stadium and finally 15 at Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) ground in Pune. The IPL 2022 final match will take place on 29th May 2022 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. For sponsorship reasons, this season will be known as Tata IPL 2022. A total of 74 matches will occur in IPL 2022 including the playoffs and the final. Every team is supposed to play 14 matches during the league stage. The tournament will begin on March 26 and the final will be played on May 29.
