Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) – An Overview
Before looking into the list of CAG of India so far, we need to know the overview and basic details regarding the constitutional position of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). By virtue of article 148 of the Indian constitution provides for an independent office of the comptroller auditor general of India. he is the head of the accounts audit department and constitutes an important constitutional body. He is the guardian of the public purse and controls the entire financial system of the country at both levels- the centre and state. CAG is appointed by the president of India by a warrant under his hand and seal. The constitution of India Article 149 authorises the parliament to prescribe the duties and powers of the CAG. Accordingly, the parliament enacted the CAG’s (Duties, Powers and Conditions of Service) Act 1971. This act was amended in 1976. This act envisages the powers and duties of the CAG in detail.

Present CAG of India 2021
Shri Girish Chandra Murmu
Shri Girish Chandra Murmu is the present CAG of India sworn on 8th August 2020. Before being in the position of the Comptroller Auditor General of India (CAG) he had delivered his service as the lieutenant colonel of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. His various other services in the government of India prior to these notable positions include Secretary of the Department of Expenditure, Special and Additional Secretary in the Department of Financial Services and Department of Revenue, and Joint Secretary in the Department of Expenditure. His educational qualifications include a post-graduation in political science from Utkal university and a MBA from the university of Birmingham. He is from the Indian administrative service batch of 1985 Gujarat Cadre. He is from Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
