- Ball Badminton – It is a racket game and is native to India. It is played with a yellow ball made of wool. The game is played outdoors. The game was played as early as 1856 by the royal family in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, India.
- Kho-Kho – It was invented in Maharashtra in 1914. The team that takes lesser time to eliminate all the opponent players wins the game. The game is popular among school children.
- Kabaddi- The sport kabaddi has attained quite popularity in India. It is a game where a raider enters the opposite team’s half to oust opponents without taking a breath. Games like Pro Kabaddi gained a lot of public attention.
- Lagori – It is a sport widely played in Southern India. It involves a ball and pile of stones to aim the ball at. It is famously also knows as Pittu. One team protects their pile of stones, he other tries to knock them over.
- Yubi Lakpi – It is similar to rugby and played in Manipur, India. It is a seven-a-side traditional football game played using a coconut.
- Mallakhamba – This sport originated in the Indian Subcontinent. In Mallakhamba, the athletes perform various types of gymnastics moves and hold various poses on a wooden pole or a rope.
- Rollball – The game was first played in Pune, India in the year 2005. It is like playing handball on roller skates. The players must bounce the ball while moving and score goals by shooting the ball into the opposing team’s goal.
- Throwball – It was played by women in India in the early 1940’s. It is played across the new by two teams of nine players each. India’s first national level throw ball was played in 1980.
- Pehlwani – It is a form of wrestling, also knows as Kushti. The participant wins by pinning the opponent’s shoulders and hips to the ground simultaneously.
- Kalaripayattu – It is an ancient martial art form that originated in Kerala. Kalari means battlefield. Kalaripayattu has rituals and philosophies inspired by Hinduism
- Gilli-Danda – It is also known as Viti Dandu and Kitti – Pul. It is played in southern part of India. Gilli Danda is an ancient sport, possibly with origins over 2500 years ago

- Football – Football is the most popular sport in the World. It has made its place in the hearts o Indian audience too. Football is viewed more rather than being played in India. Currently the Indian football team ranks 105th in the world. Tournaments like Indian Super League helped the exposure of football in India.
- Hockey – It is the national sport of India. But in recent years it has lost its past glory. The famous hockey player Dhyan Chand led the India hockey team to 8 Olympic victories. The Hockey Indian League (HIL) is trying to revive hockey’s lost reputation.
- Tennis – One of the most popular sports in the world, tennis is enjoyed as a spectator sport in India. While India did not have much luck in the single circuit, India does have Grand Slam doubles title to its name won by Mahesh Bhupati and Leander Paes.
National Games of India
Sport persons from different states of India participate with each other in various sporting events. In the year 1024 Indian Olympic Association was formed. It short listed athletes to participate in Olympic Games. The name was changed to National Games in 1940, during 9th National Games in Bombay(present Mumbai).
