History of Indian Navy
The origin of the Indian Navy can be traced back to the East India Company’s Marine. It was founded in 1612 to protect British merchant shipping in the region. In 1830, the colonial navy was titled as His Majesty’s Indian Navy. It came to be known as the Royal Indian Navy since 1934. When India became a republic in 1950, the Royal Indian Navy was renamed to Indian Navy.
The main aim of the Indian Navy is to safeguard the nation’s maritime borders. Together with the Indian Army, it takes action against the threats that the land or people may face during both war or peace. Also, they execute humanitarian missions, like disaster relief.
