The winners of Pulitzer Prize 2022 in Journalism, Drama, Books, and Music were declared on May 9. It is important to note that this year India acquired four awards for documenting its battle with Covid-19. Pulitzer Prize 2022 winners list consists of The Washington Post, Indians Adnan Abidi, Amit Dave, Irshad Matto, and the late Danish Siddiqui of Reuters in Journalism. The journalists from Ukraine were also recognized with a 2022 Pulitzer Prize special citation.

In Pulitzer Award 2022, the judges of Journalism’s top honors also realized the coverage of the January 6th attack on the Capitol, the surfside condominium collapse in Florida, and the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. Pulitzer Award 2022 has also been awarded in various sections in Books, Drama and Music.
A Pulitzer Prize was awarded to the late Danish Siddiqui in the category of Feature Photography. Above all, photojournalist Siddiqui, who was connected with the international news agency Reuters, was assassinated while covering the war between Afghan troops and the Taliban in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar city previous year. Siddiqui had earlier gained the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, as part of the Reuters team, for documenting the Rohingya refugee crisis.

After the death of Siddiqui, he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize along with Adnan Abidi, Sanna Irshad Mattoo, and Amit Dave for their images of Covid’s toll on India. Siddiqui was killed last year while covering a clash between Afghan special forces and Taliban insurgents.

The Pulitzer Prize is an award for achievements in magazines, newspapers, online journalism, literature, musical composition within the United States. Pulitzer was started in 1917 by the provisions in the will of Joseph of Pulitzer, who made his fortune as a newspaper publisher and is administered by Columbia University.

Pulitzer Prizes are awarded every year in 21 categories. In 20 of the categories, each winner will get a certificate and a US $15,000 cash award. The Pulitzer winner in the Public Service Category was awarded a Gold Medal.

Winner: Staff of Quanta Magazine, notably Natalie Wolchover, for reporting on how the Webb Space Telescope works.
Local Reporting
Winner: Madison Hopkins of the Better Government Association and Cecilia Reyes of the Chicago Tribune for an examination of Chicago’s long history of failed building and fire safety code enforcement.
National Reporting
Winner: The staff of The New York Times for a project that quantified a disturbing pattern of fatal traffic stops by police.

International Reporting
Winner: The staff of The New York Times for reporting that exposed the vast civilian tolls of US-led airstrikes, challenging official accounts of American military engagements in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.
Feature Writing
Winner: Jennifer Senior of The Atlantic for a portrayal of a family’s reckoning of loss in the 20 years since 9/11.
Commentary
Winner: Melinda Henneberger of the Kansas City Star for persuasive columns demanding justice for alleged victims of a retired police detective accused of being a sexual predator.
Criticism
Winner: Salamishah Tillet, contributing critic at large for The New York Times, for writing about Black stories in art and popular culture.
Editorial Writing
Winner: Lisa Falkenberg, Michael Lindenberger, Joe Holley and Luis Carrasco of the Houston Chronicle for a campaign that, with original reporting, revealed voter suppression tactics, rejected the myth of widespread voter fraud and argued for sensible voting reforms.
