TNPSC (Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) is an independent constitutional body which is responsible for conducting examinations for the appointment of state/subordinate services within its purview. The jobs under the TNPSC are categorized into eight groups among which the post of steno typist comes under group 4. The latest notification of TNPSC on the post of steno typist is expected to be released soon. The applications should be submitted online through the official website of TNPSC www.tnpsc.gov.in. The recruitment process will be based on a written examination. The selected candidates are supposed to work in various departments such as Tamil Nadu ministerial service, Tamil Nadu judicial ministerial service, Tamil Nadu survey and land records subordinate service and Tamil Nadu secretariat service. Eligibility Criteria
Age limit
The age of the candidates must be between 18 and 30. Candidates belonging to SC, ST or backward classes will be provided with an age relaxation of 2 to 5 years.
Educational Qualification
Candidates should have passed SSLC public examination and they should be eligible for higher education. They are also supposed to qualify the government technical examination in type writing and shorthand,
• By higher/ senior grade in Tamil and English or
• By higher/ senior grade in Tamil and Lower/ junior grade in English or
• By higher/ senior grade in English and lower/ junior grade in Tamil
In addition, candidates should also possess a certificate course in computer on ‘office automation’ from the technical education department.
NB: Those who have not done the certificate course in computer are also eligible to apply and they are expected to do the course within the period of their probation.
Knowledge in Tamil language is a mandatory. The selected candidates have to qualify the second class language test in Tamil within a period of two years from the date of their appointment.
Salary details
For the post of steno typist, the salary will be between 20, 600 and 65, 500 per month.
Selection procedure
The recruitment process is based on an objective type of written examination with a total of 300 marks with 200 questions. The questions will be based on the following topics.
A) General knowledge (SSLC standard) (75 questions)
B) General Tamil/ general English (100 questions)
C) Aptitude and mental ability test (25 questions)
The total time duration for the exam is 3 hours and the qualifying mark is 90.
Candidates with technical qualification of higher/ senior grade in Tamil and English language will be considered first for selection.
If candidates with the above qualification are not available, candidates with technical qualification of higher/ senior grade in Tamil and Lower/ junior grade in English will get a priority chance.
If candidates with technical qualification of higher/ senior grade in Tamil and English, higher/ senior grade in Tamil and lower/ junior grade in English are not available. Candidates with technical qualification of Higher/ senior grade in English and lower/ junior grade in Tamil will be considered for selection.
