• Indian teenager Udit Singhal has been named in the 2020 Class of 17 Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• He has been named in the 2020 list of young leaders who promote sustainable development goals.
• Udit Singhal is the founder of Glass2Sand, an initiative that is based on a zero-waste ecosystem to tackle the challenge of glass waste in Delhi.
• This initiative has prevented empty glass bottles of getting dumped into landfills and turned it into sands, making it commercially viable.

Rajya Sabha Passed the Epidemic Diseases Amendment Bill, 2020

• Rajya Sabha has passed the Epidemic Diseases (Amendment) Bill, 2020 on September 19, 2020.
• It amends the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.
• Now it will include protections for healthcare service personnel who are combating the epidemic diseases .
• The bill also expands the powers of the central government to prevent the spread of such diseases.

Tamil Nadu becomes the first state to launch AI, blockchain, cybersecurity policies

• Tamil Nadu has become the first state in India to launch policies on Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Cybersecurity policies.
• Chief minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami unveiled the Tamil Nadu Cyber Security Policy, 2020, Tamil Nadu Blockchain Policy, 2020, and Tamil Nadu Safe and Ethical Artificial Intelligence Policy, 2020 at Connect 2020.
• State Family DataBase (SFDB) and Block-Chain Backbone infrastructure will be established in the state for the implementation of these policies.

• Novak Djokovic has defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman, 7-6, 5-3, to win 2020 Men’s Single Italian Open title and his fifth overall Rome title.

• A medical devices park with international standards will be established at Life Sciences Park in Thonnakkal, Thiruvananthapuram.

• The facility named MedSpark seeks to create a support system for research and development and testing and evaluation of medical devices.

• Kerala Police proved that they can also be creative apart from nabbing criminals.
• ‘Salute’ compiles the short stories of different police officers positioning from ADGP to CPO.

• India’s first Coast Guard academy will be established at Mangaluru, Defence Spokesperson (PRO) Bengaluru said.
• Around 158 acres Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) land has been taken over for setting up ICG Academy.
• While the initial plan was to set up an academy in Kerala’s Azhikkal.
• However, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) dropped the plan after the Ministry of Environment and Forest denied the environment and Coastal Regulation Zone permission as the area lied in an area marked as CRZ-1(A) where no construction is allowed.

• Kerala Tourism has bagged one of the three PATA Grand Awards, will give a stimulus to the tourism industry in the State that is in a crisis for over six months due to the pandemic.
• This year PATA Grand Award recognised the achievements of three Grand title winners and 21 gold awards.

• Kerala bagged a United Nations award for its “outstanding contribution” towards the non-communicable diseases-related sustainable development goals.
• The award recognises achievements during 2019 on the multisectoral action in the prevention and control of NCDs, mental health and the wider NCD-related sustainable development goals (SDGs).
• This is the first time the state has been recognised for this annual award by the UN.
• Kerala is among the seven ministries of health across the world.

• India successfully test fired the Prithvi II missile which was developed indigenously.
• The test was conducted at the Chandipur Integrated Test Range, Odisha.

India ranked 89th in World Risk Report 2020

• According to the World Risk Index (WRI) 2020, India has been ranked at the 89th spot among 181 Countries.
• WRI has been developed in cooperation with the United Nations University’s Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNUEHS) and calculated by the International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV).
• India is behind Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Maldives in terms of abilities to cope with extreme disasters, lack of adaptive capacities and the preparedness to deal with extreme events.

Shivangi Singh set to become India’s 1st woman fighter pilot to fly Rafale

• Flight Lieutenant, Shivangi Singh to become the first woman fighter pilot of India to fly the Rafale combat aircraft that was formally inducted into the Indian Air Force(IAF) September 10, 2020.
• She is one of the 10 Indian women fighter pilots in IAF. Five Rafale Aircraft were formally inducted into the IAF’s 17 Squadron ‘Golden Arrows’ on September 10, 2020, at a function held at Air Force Station, Ambala (Haryana).
• Shivangi Singh was among the 2nd batch of women fighter pilots who were commissioned in 2017.
