UFO- Definition & Meaning
Well, you’ve read about the aliens and UFO’s in the lines above, so what actually are UFOs? According to Wikipedia, An unidentified flying object is any aerial phenomenon that cannot immediately be identified or explained. Most UFOs are identified or investigated as conventional objects or phenomena. They have also classified as completely unidentified or identifiable anomalies, as put forth by the World UFO Day official website. As a matter of fact, the extraterrestrial being, ie the aliens are termed as intelligent beings or even sapient beings bringing forth civilizations probably which might be far more advanced than humanity.
History and Significance of World UFO Day
In the early 1900s, American aviator Kenneth Arnold seemingly spotted nine, shiny objects flying over Washington on the night of June 24. Arnold described them as “ a large flat disk” and “like a saucer”, which has now inevitably become the symbol of an imaginary spaceship.
The WUFODO, generally known as the World UFO Day Organization, then decided to mark July 2nd to create awareness about the existence of UFOs and the intelligent beings from outer space. However, they wanted to point out the fact that we are not alone in this universe. Additionally, the WUFODO also wanted to encourage governments to declassify the files on the supposedly so-called ‘UFO sightings’, with the aim of celebrating togetherness and solidarity among people who believed in the reality of aliens and other extraterrestrial beings.
Roswell Incident Mexico, 1947
In the summer of 1947, the Roswell UFO incident reminds us of a world-renowned conspiracy theory about the existence of aliens. It was a project by the US Army Air Forces that involved flying microphones on weather balloons to detect Soviet nuclear test explosions. A farmer named William Brazel discovered unidentifiable debris in his sheep fields just outside Roswell, New Mexico. He described the wreckage as a “large area of bright wreckage made up of rubber strips, tinfoil, a rather tough paper and sticks”. The local US Army Air Force base claimed that the debris came from the crashed hot air balloons but many people in that area thought that they were remnants of a flying saucer.
Called a “cover-up”, this incident soon paved way for Hollywood movies on extraterrestrial encounters in the 1950s and to date. Even now, after more than 70 years, the incident remains a defining feature of Roswell’s identity. However, the area covering the ranch from where the US army recovered the so-called “flying disc”, now has a UFO museum and research center, along with alien-themed streetlights, and a flying saucer-inspired McDonald’s outlet. The area also has a broken-down UFO model on the side of State Route 285, showcasing an extraterrestrial “family” stranded and looking for a head-start.
