Assistant Section Officer: Qualifications
Age Limit
The age limit considered for the last notification was between 18 to 42 years Age as on 01.07.2018.
Eligibility
- He / She is of sound health, active habits and free from any bodily defect or infirmity
rendering him unfit for such service. - His / Her character and antecedents are such as to qualify him for such service.
- He /She possesses the academic and other qualifications prescribed for the post.
- He/ She is a citizen of India.

Educational Qualification
Assistant Section Officer (GAD) in A.P. Secretariat Sub. Service
A Bachelor’s Degree from any University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, Provincial Act or a State Act or an Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission or an equivalent qualification.
Assistant Section Officer (Finance) in A.P. Secretariat Sub. Service
A Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or Economics or Commerce from any University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, Provincial Act or a State Act or an Institution recognized by the UGC or an equivalent qualification.
Assistant Section Officer (Law Dept.,) in A.P. Secretariat Subordinate Service
A Bachelor’s Degree in Law from any University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, Provincial Act or a State Act or an Institution recognized by the UGC or an equivalent qualification.
Assistant Section Officer (Legislature) in A.P. Legislature Secretariat Service
A Degree of a University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act or by an Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission.

ASO: Salary
The job is under the Class II cadre. The pay scale is between Rs. 26,600/- – Rs. 77,030/-. The basic pay for the candidate is 26,600. And the allowances range between Rs. 14,000 – 20,000/-. Thus, the selected candidates will be receiving this amount after a regular appointment.

ASO: Duties/Job Profile
Section Officers is In charge of a Section in the Department. Two Assistant Section Officers assist him.
- The ASO has to assist the Section Officer in dealing with cases relating to his Section.
- Then to reference the communications properly.
- They are expected to do work of a routine and mechanical nature such as maintaining the prescribed Registers typing drafts, fair copying, dispatching and indexing.
- They are responsible for keeping the track record of all moving files and must be aware of the current status of each.
- ASOs are assisted by the clerical cadre for timely completion of work.
- They are responsible to prepare the reply for RTIs, Parliament Questions, Grievances of Public/Employees, etc.
- Also of keeping records of correspondence with any internal section or government department or any private agency.
- Training for the Assistant Section Officers is given by the Section Officers of respective departments.
- They need personal skills like Good communication skills and should be able to put thoughts/matters on paper.
- They are also required to know letter drafting, basic computer operations, and MS Word/Excel, etc.
