List of Geographical Epithets 2023 – Full List
Epithets are bi-names or descriptive titles used to refer to a place/ river by glorifying its importance or any historical features. It’s a descriptive literary device that describes a place, a thing, or a person in such a way that it helps in making its characteristics more prominent than they actually are. For example the country, Belgium is often called the Battleground of Europe or the crossroad of Europe. It’s because of the numerous warfares that happened on Belgium soil. The English, Dutch, French and German armies have all fought each other within Belgium borders. The battles of Oudenaarde, Ramillies, Waterloo, Ypres and Bastogne were all fought on Belgian soil. Likewise, Gandhinagar in Gujarat is called the Green city, because of the excess greenery surrounded that area. Bangalore is our silicon valley, thanks to the hundreds of tech companies in the city making a striking resemblance to the American counterpart.
