Malaysia Independence Day is celebrated this year on August 31st. It is also known as the National Day or Hari Merdeka in Malay. Malaysia Independence Day was declared on August 31, 1957. History of Malaysia Independence Day
The activities for the independence of Malaysia were directed by the first Malaysian prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. He headed a delegation of ministers and state governors of Malaya to consult with the British for freedom. The struggle for independence was formulated then and later with many deliberations, freedom was obtained.
As the warning of communist issues, pretended through the Malayan Emergency slowly became more limited, an understanding was maintained on February 8, 1956, for Malaysia to achieve independence from the British Empire. However, because of some logistical and administrative purposes, their real independence was announced in the subsequent year on August 31, 1957.
On the evening of August 30, 1957, groups assembled at Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur to see the handover of authority from the British superiors to the Malaysian authority. Then, the Union Jack in the square was lowered. The Flag of Malaysia was established as the national anthem Negaraku was performed. This was supported by seven chants of “Merdeka” by the masses.
