OET, Occupational English Test, is an international English language exam, specifically designed for healthcare professionals. The test assesses a person’s English reading, listening, writing and speaking proficiency.

How Does OET Work?
1: What is the primary purpose of a patient’s discharge summary?
OET test consists of four sub tests:
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening
- Speaking
There are three delivery modes:
- OET Test on Paper – You can book your test 24 days in advance. Book your test on Fridays and Saturdays during each test administration. You will receive your results after 17 days.
- OET Test on Computer – You can book your test 7 days in advance and get your results within 10 days of completing all four sub-tests. Book your test from Monday to Saturdays during each test administration.
- OET Test@Home – You can book your test 7 days in advance and get your results within 10 days of completing all four sub-tests. Book your test from Monday to Saturdays during each test administration.

The listening subtest consists of a total of 42 questions divided into 3 parts. Candidates listen to the recorded speech once and answer the questions.

Writing
Candidates have to write a letter of reference in his/her field of specialty. They would be provided with background information about the task which they may or may not incorporate into their reference letter. The duration of the subtest is 45 minutes.
Speaking
Candidates are required to do a role play their profession based on real life situation where the panelist plays a patient for the first part, and the roles are reversed in the latter.
