Indian Premiere League (IPL) History
The IPL Governing Council, which operates under the auspices of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, organises the Indian Premier League (IPL), a domestic Twenty20 cricket competition that takes place every year in India (BCCI). It is the second-best paid [notes 1] sporting league in the world and the Twenty20 competition with the most viewers. Each team plays every other team twice during the IPL competition in a home-and-away, double round-robin format. The top four teams advance to the playoffs at the end of the double round-robin league based on total points. The top two teams fight against one another in this round (in a match dubbed “Qualifier 1”), along with the last two teams (in a match titled “Eliminator”). The losing team gets another opportunity to qualify for the final match by playing the winning team of the Eliminator match; this match is referred to as Qualifier 2. The winner of Qualifier 1 directly qualifies for the final match, but the losing team gets another opportunity to qualify by playing the winning team of the Eliminator match; this match is referred to as Qualifier 2.
